Murray State University’s Department of Art & Design
Hosts Annual Art Auction
MURRAY, Ky. — The Murray State Department of Art & Design and University Galleries are pleased to host the 2023 annual Art Auction on Friday, November 10, beginning at 6:00 p.m. in the Clara M. Eagle Gallery, located on the sixth floor of the Doyle Price Fine Arts building on Murray State’s campus.
Original works of art in a wide variety of formats will be available for purchase through both silent and live auction during the evening. The works are donated by faculty, staff, students, and alumni, as well as local and regional artists, and proceeds from the event go to support Murray State’s Department of Art & Design student scholarships.
This year’s featured artist is John Utgaard, Professor of Ceramics at Murray State University. John Utgaard grew up in Carbondale, Illinois and studied at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale, the Kansas City Art Institute, and at Alfred University where he received his MFA in 1999. In addition to having been an artist in residence at the Archie Bray Foundation, the Northern Clay Center, and the Red Lodge Clay Center, he has also taught at the University of Texas at Austin, Penn State University, and currently teaches in the ceramics area of Murray State’s department of Art and Design. His current body of work is a meditation on our relationship to land and landscapes.
Registration and the silent auction begin at 6:00pm and the live auction begins at 7:00pm. Hors d’oeuvres will be provided.
